gimme a fucking break

really
ive met him he always seemed nice but since when does a handfull of aging dj's playing house in a coffe shop in clifton actually constitute momentum

this is not even supposed to be a diss on chuck or anyone on calico personally but get on board or keep your opinion to yourself

all paul has done is support your events on the board and in person and you are going to get on here and talk 10 plus year old drama i dont see him doing the same

mother fuckers we are all adults and all we want is to have a good time so leave your high school shit at home

paul is only trying to throw a lil joint for fun at a very cheap/free cost to people interested in attending

and it will be fun so why not come/support and have a good time instead of talking some shit

Yep, that's less than 9 months away! When you ask 12 people to bring a bunch of studio gear you want every last thing tied down to an immovable object before announcing anything cut in stone. Pre-flyer coming when I have half the lineup confirmed.
timmy wrote:And u have to buy a flyer ? Pay to play ?

As previously explained, a joke. Talk about giving back to the scene, promise the sun and moon, put a ridiculous price on it... don't tell me you've never seen that happen: the two headliners mysteriously don't show, the door price is $5 more than stated, the space/sound is lousy, it's right next to a residence and gets shut down due to noise, or worst of all, sell 1,000 presale and cancel the event... that was the joke, it wasn't supposed to be at your expense, more the guy doggin' you for not having a flyer out in time.
Just realized I hadn't edited that post out, I fixed the first one but forgot about the second. Consider it stricken from the record. Nobody is paying for a flyer, and if you choose to throw in as an artist that would be hunky dory but no, I'm not expecting it in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I'm paying some/most of the talent. My guess is this party will lose 1-2 grand, if it goes over 2 I fucked up; if it makes money, I fucked up even worse.
timmy wrote:Is this what I've been doing wrong ?

I don't know what, if anything, you've been doing wrong. Event promotion is a cutthroat bitch goddess that doles out profits to a few and makes most disheartened and bitter; the shameful thing is the goal is the same: to give people a chance to let go and enjoy themselves, in the hopes they will pay again to do it again at some point in the future. That's why I started a record label and not a promotion company, we can have parties without the stress and drama of it being a for-profit event.

You tell me! I'm just this guy, you know?

Israel is a good distance away, but I'm pretty sure that Infected tours the states. I doubt that you would have to pay for airfair from israel if you got them after a weekend in, say, Cleveland, or Columbus, which they played this past year. This being such a high caliber event, I don't see why getting them would be a problem.

$5 x (generously) 100 people = those kids playing buckets outside the stadium being out of budget.

you know im not trying to piss on your parade, but at $5 a head.. what budget? that'd be lucky to cover venue and a cheap sound rig.

i like the idea of another "bring your records"-style grill-out

I am no math wizard... how can it be a 15 year anniversary?

First CALICO release = test pressing in May 1995. 2010-1995=15; was that really so hard?
No, I haven't released anything in a long time, but I have had music up on this or that web site. For example, I have had an individual page on MySpace since 2005. Just one more difference between a record label and an event promoter, I suppose...

 They are actually on my list of potential acts, but you are right, if I was trying to recoup my investment this would all be out of the question. That's the point, I waste money here and there regardless, why not shove it in a pile and do something I'll really enjoy? I can sock away a couple grand, blow it all on one night of electronic debauchery. It sounds as much fun as a vacation, plus I can invite all my friends along!

I understand the math, i just don't understand how it works with ten years missing. Shouldn't this be a come back tour< or something?

Two problems:
1. I do not really care.
2. No tour.
3. It just doesn't work that way with anniversaries. Pearl Harbor, for example, hasn't happened since 1941.
4. You can call it whatever you want to--I still call that event at Hart Plaza DEMF.
5. I obviously can't count for shit, this is supposed to be two problems.
6. We're not bad people, we're not dirty, we're not mean, we love everybody, but we do as we please.

7. Life's for livin' yeah that's our philosophy.
8. I played live in 2003.
9. Don't call it a comeback...

10. Damage.
11. Damage.
12. Damage.
13. Damage.
14. Destruction, terror, and mayhem.
15. I think I'm gonna bomb a town.
16. Get down.
17. Gangsta boogie, gangsta boogie, gangsta boogie, gangsta boogie, gangsta boogie, gangsta boogie, gangsta boogie, gangsta boogie...

 I am not some hipster tool who does things to impress other people. Let me re-emphasize my not caring what you think or if you come. :D

To recap what I've learned: You can't count, know too much about psytrance, and aren't playing at or coming to this event. Noted.

Oh, I can count. 1995 to 2010 is 15 years, but if you have been gone for ten years, that makes five years. I would say my knowledge of psytrance is pretty limited. Not a big fan of the almighty, Infected Mushroom, honestly. I much prefer Psysex, Rinkadink, and 1200 Mics. Oh yeah. Me, a hipster. rigggght. I don't even know what a hipster is. How could I be one. Go back into hiding.

Didn't say you were. I said I wasn't, ergo I am not concerned as to who is or is not impressed by this or that. I have been working on material the whole time, and I take pride in my work, which is why it has not been shared about in unfinished.

Three of 8 live acts confirmed, other than me. Working out the details of a simulcast from Taiwan... Got a couple of the after party DJs, too. I'll start working on the pre-flyer when I get the next act confirmed.
thomas reed wrote:I see you have the price, so you must have the lineup and budget finalized.

:p RTFM  I answered this already, the $5 is set in stone, donations are welcome, and I'm planning on losing $1000 or more on this event. I might print up a pile of invite cards at some point, but as this is invite only, no need to print up thousands of flyers for people who won't come.

For the umpteenth: CALICO = music; other guys = event promotion.
This is an anniversary party celebrating 15 years since the genesis of CALICO. It is not a rave, a club night, or an investment.
Anyone who does not want to hear a day of live music and eat lots of delicious food can:
a. pay more and go elsewhere,
b. grill out with their friends and/or family,
c. go downtown for the WEBN fireworks show, or
d. otherwise enjoy their Labor Day weekend.
I intentionally picked one of the craziest party weekends of the year so that me and mine could have our fun with everyone who was down, without being surrounded by people who were not. You dig? Then you're more than welcome to come, just request an invite.

It is substantially cheaper than flying him over from Linkou, Taiwan for a gig.
This will go down one of two ways:
1) He will find a local club and play live there/here, but there is a big time difference;
2) It will be a live studio session; anyone around here done that before?
